Photographing snow

Have been busy playing with my boys in the snow this morning, took quite a few pics and have realised adjusting levels in photoshop is the main thing I do when editing photographs, but when editing snow pics I do not mess with the white end of levels as have pretty much got that sussed with my camera and white balance, just make the shadows alot darker as this really highlights the whiteness of the snow

Looking forward to Kate Middleton Exhibition

Kate Middleton (now Duchess of Cambridge) is going to put on an exhibition of her work and is sorting out her portfolio right now, looking forward to seeing her photography skills. She can then raise money for her charities but sales of her work-good idea, especially as photography is something she is passionate about.

A course for iPhone photography?

iPhoneography?! Can’t shun it until you’ve tried I guess but this does sound like the qualification wouldn’t do a lot for your CV?! There are hardly any settings to be changed with an iPhone so what the heck will they be teaching, suppose it could be fun to visit lots of different locations but you don’t really need a college course to tell you how to do that? The instamatic app is fabulous and you should give it a go, just for fun!

The new Facebook Timeline

I know there has been a big hoo-hah over whether or not this new timeline for Facebook is going to drag up old statuses and posts and pics from the past, but to be honest they were all there anyway, if you really wanted to dig out some dirt on someone you could. I think the new timeline is fab, you can delete or hide anything you do not now see as appropriate and it is fab for showcasing photography as you can have your images rather large. At the end of the day, if you don’t agree with Facebook timeline you shouldn’t be on there at all!

Which photography magazine

I want to subscribe to a few photography magazines and am researching the best out there at the moment. After a trip to WHSmith today I found out the N Photo magazine to be the best for me (so far….) I own a Nikon so there is a good start(this is a Nikon specific mag). The tutorials are great, simple and easy projects to follow. The comments are valuable and at £5 this is certainly worth it, ah and just read if you subscribe you can save £2.50 as it will turn out at £12.50 for 3 months (monthly issues)-and an added bonus, the mag had a disc which has video tuition linked to bits in the mag. Guardian Masterclass photography taster

My husband bought me a “Groupon” for christmas to attend a photography class in Dartford (6 hours for £25!!) – usually this would have been £200, I will comment when I have been on the course! I quite fancy this one too “London in the mid-morning”, a six week course but the taster is just £40 pp, might give it a go…..only 15 places though so I guess I better be quick to book
